Goldsboro, North Carolina
Project Summary:
The project consisted of constructing a 110,000 sf addition to the west end of the existing structure and renovating approximately 30,000 sf at the west end on the ground level. This was a 28 month project with the first 18 months involving construction of the new west wing. This new wing construction involved several phases requiring detailed coordination. A new temporary access tunnel was constructed on piling to stand over a future I acre excavation that was 10 feet deep. All of this had to be coordinated with the removal of an existing 5000 sf concrete canopy at the existing emergency room entrance. As part of the new construction we erected a 4 story connector bridge spanning 40’ from the new building to the existing building. Columns for this bridge passed through the roof and waiting area of the existing emergency room and the beam tied into the existing building at 3 critical areas: 1st floor maternity ward, and 2nd and 3rd floor existing patient rooms. The last ten months of the project involved 6 phases of renovations: demolition of HVAC, electrical, plumbing and architectural work at the surgical, Radiology and cystology areas with new medical lights and equipment installed in these areas.
